About Lanterns Prince George
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower children and youth facing separation, divorce, loss or other life-altering events by providing safe, inclusive spaces for per connection, emotional support, and healing. Through guided peer support groups and age-appropriate programs, we help young people build resilience, express their feelings and know they are not alone.
Our Vision
Lanterns is a peer support organization dedicated to helping children and youth navigate difficult life experiences such as divorce, the death of a loved one, or other major life changes. We provide safe, welcoming spaces where young people can connect with peers who are going through similar challenges. Our programs are guided by our own trained facilitators who support open conversations, shared experiences, and emotional expressions.
While we are not a counselling or therapy service, we offer valuable opportunities for connection, understanding, and healing through peer support. We offer this program at no cost to the participants and we are funded by donations from the public. While sessions are held at St. Mary's School, Lanterns is a non-sectarian organization open to children/youth and families of any faith or beliefs.
Commitment to Compassion
We welcome children, adolescents and adults who are grieving into our hearts.
We commit to support them through their journey from hurting to healing.
We promise to listen with our hearts without making judgements.
We will refrain from giving advice for there are no answers to loss.
We wish to instill the seeds of healing and acceptance, for these gifts bring hope to the bereaved.
We want to be a guide to the discovery of how truly special and loveable each person is.
We will wipe away the tears of those who mourn so that they may be able to see the bright lantern after their dark time.
